The Vintage Sports Car Club of America - V.S.C.C.A., Inc. - is the oldest automotive preservation club in America that offers a complete race program in addition to rally and other automotive conservation events.  The emphasis is on rare and unusual sports & racing cars including pre-war and certain post war cars through December 31, 1959*

Lee Duran

Long time member Lee Duran, of Lyme CT, died at Lime Rock Park on Saturday of the Historic Festival. He was driving his MG-PA single seat special in the prewar class when he lost control of the car in the Downhill turn and rolled over several times.

Lee was an enthusiastic vintage motorist and a man of uncommon engineering skills. He had built the body of the MG himself and had fabricated a number of interesting projects that included the rebody of a Lagonda.

He was a warm and pleasant man with a ready smile and limitless enthusiasm. He will be missed greatly.

Our sympathies go out to his wife, Judith, and to all of his many friends.

Requiescat in Pace.

A letter from our President, John Schieffelin:

We lost one of us, Lee Duran, to a tragic accident on August 30 at the Lime Rock Historics. Lee was a consummate enthusiast for our part of the old car hobby and regular participant at our events. He was a superb engineer, craftsman, fabricator and in fact had built the exquisite little MG PA special in which he had the accident. Just prior to going out on the track for the last time, he had been helping other MG people fix problems with their cars. Yes, he was one of us.

It should be said that the response of Corner Workers to the situation was immediate and appropriate, as was that of Race Control mobilizing the Lime Rock safety personnel. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save Lee.

We all know that life in this world eventually comes to an end. When something like this happens, we question “Why now?” We grieve for one of us, a healthy, happy man enjoying the hobby and sport we love, gone in an instant. But our loss pales beside that of Judith who has lost her husband after more than 50 years of marriage. We will have her in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

John
